I can't remember why I bought Body of Work but I know we were still living in California when I bought it. Maybe a good review? I think I may have given it to Telfer as a Christmas present even? Maybe? Telfer took a Doctors, Medicine & Literature course at NNU and I purposely paid close attention to the subgenre as a medical librarian (you're welcome Loma Linda).
So I finally got around to reading this particular book and it was okay. Mostly I think I like the idea of the book {and the cover & title) more than the reality. A lot of nonfiction should stay a magazine article. You can just picture the editor saying - I think there's a book here! And what was once a lovely, thoughtful piece becomes overwrought and bloated BUT book-length.
oo so true - i think they usually become books not because a publisher thinks it really needs that many pages but because it has sales potential (at least it may help subsidize the fiction).
